Dear Friends,
I will never forget the images of that day; watching live on television with millions of my fellow Americans as the second airplane disappeared into the World Trade Center, to be followed shortly by a moment of sheer disbelief and the tears of a Nation.
As the events of September 11, 2001 unfolded, it would become ever-more clear that our way of life, our very existence, would be never be the same. America was under attack, and we were confused, we were scared and we were mad.
The freedoms that we as Americans are so blessed to possess were directly and forcefully assaulted on that day of infamy. Our enemies did all that they could to take these away from us, and though they shook our nation to its very core, they failed to break the American resolve.
Thanks to the actions of our brave police officers, firefighters, paramedics and all of the first responders, as well as our troops, our leaders and the unbreakable spirit of the American people, we sit here today as free and blessed as ever before.
On this tenth anniversary of September 11th, or Patriot Day as it is now remembered, let us reflect upon and pay tribute to the 2,977 American lives lost in the senseless attacks on our soil, the brave American troops who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom and all of the men and women who continue to serve our great nation so that we may be free.
A Chaplain of the United States Navy wrote the “Remember 9/11 Prayer” on the 1st anniversary of September 11th.The words of this prayer hold as true today as ever, and I would like to share them with you:
Remember 9/11 Prayer
Almighty God, this past year will be indelibly inscribed in our memories.
We looked with horror on the terrorist attacks of last September 11th.
But we looked with honor on acts of courage by ordinary people
who sacrificed themselves to prevent further death and destruction.
We shed our tears in a common bond of grief for those we loved and lost.
We journeyed through a dark valley, but your light has led us to a place of hope.
You have turned our grief into determination.
We are resolved to do what is good, and right, and just.
Help us to remember what it means to be Americans –
a people endowed with abundant blessings.
Help us to cherish the freedoms we enjoy and inspire to stand
with courage, united as one Nation in the midst of any adversity.
Lord, hear this prayer for our Nation.
Amen.
Fly your flag with pride today, as we all reflect upon, remember and pay our respects to the victims, the heroes and the everlasting spirit of American Freedom.
God Bless you, and God Bless the United States of America.
Proudly,
Sunny K. Park
